The Municipality of Antiparos, in collaboration with the environmental organization Aegean Rebreath, is launching a pilot program to promote tap water in the context of dealing with single-use plastic pollution on the island. The program will be implemented by the Municipality of Antiparos as part of the Blue Municipalities Network and is financed by Nina Schnabel.
The program started with a consultation with the inhabitants of the island based on a questionnaire, offering useful conclusions. A significant majority of respondents (86%) indicated their intention to participate in the effort to reduce the use of bottled water bottles, while 82% of respondents would like to see stores move to replace bottled water with tap water if all are met the quality conditions.
In this context, the Municipality of Antiparos will publish the results of the water quality measurements on a particularly regular basis, which will be published on the municipality’s website, in order to ensure that residents are informed.
The next phase of the program envisages the donation of a certain number of reverse osmosis filters to coffee shops and public structures, which provide all the necessary possibilities to ensure the required quality of tap water. The businesses that will participate will receive the necessary advertising that will highlight their venture. The companies that will be interested in the implementation of the relevant program will participate in an information meeting with the aim of providing possible clarifications.
Those interested are requested to inform either the municipal authorities of their intention or by email to the email address info@antiparos.gr stating the name of the business and the contact phone number.
